Tom Arkus Church Session
Tom Arkus spends most of his time behind a computer or working on the trails, but he recently sent me some photos of his adventure in this abandoned and decrepit church they explored and rode recently. Here is what he had to say,
“We stumbled on this old abandoned Church in Gary, Indiana, the birth place of Michael Jackson and #2 murder capital of the U.S. 2 years ago. The original plan was to go shoot some profile shots for the new Vinyl website. However, we ended up filming for 3 hours riding the most random stuff you can imagine. This has to be one of the oddest places I have ever ridden my bike. Look forward to seeing some footage somewhere in the Sunday world soon!”

Dizz Hicks on a Funday!
Have you ever heard the line in the Tupac song Old School where the chorus says “I wouldn’t be here today if the old school didn’t pave the way?” This is so fitting for this situation. John “Dizz” Hicks rode for CW back in the 80’s and had his own unique look and style. He’s been the subject of Ryan Humphrey‘s art show Fast Forward. From the wedge ramp mastering to the heavy metal hair, he easily stood out in the magazines and everyone’s memories today. I can’t imagine BMX in the 80’s without him and I can guarantee others feel the same way. So this is sort of my way of repaying one of the guys that paved my way into BMX and made me think of it in a completely different way. I am psyched to have Dizz riding a Funday. 4th of July Pool Party
Tom Arkus sent me a whole bunch of photos from him riding some pools with Brian Yeagle, Moris and Jason Willis. Here is what he had to say:
There is probably no better way to spend 4th of July with your homies riding 3 different pools in one day. I’ve known about the pools for a while now but never got the chance to go check them out cause i had no idea where they were. 5 phone calls later we are riding them… The first pools were massive with some nice tranny’s to banks very fun to ride. One of the pools was 12ft deep, you are able to roast the crap out of that one but the water put a damper on that this time around. The pool at the foreclosed house was sick! It had the feeling that you were out in the woods and you just stumbled upon a tight tranny pool. The thing probably had 6 inch’s of tranny but it was laid back so it felt awesome carving it like a berm. Dropping in was a big deal but we got it done in the deep end. Look forward to seeing some footage very soon… Thanks to Moris for showing us around. Shout out to Yeagle for going on the mission. Thanks to Jason Willis for the sweet photographs.
