Happy New Year!!!!

It has been 9 months since I left Kink and started Sunday bikes, there are so many people I would like to thank for making the last 9 months a success. My shop business partner JP who has to deal with me running around in circles trying to get whatever I can done. My friends from all over who believe in and want to support me, it means a lot. The team took a little time to come together, but this stuff takes time. To me every guy brings something really unique to the team, it is an honor to have them be apart of all this. Again this all takes time, so let me thank all the people who waited for products to come out. And all the riders unknown to me who run Sunday stuff, it is really appreciated. I know that I am forgetting some people, but you know who you are.

So, what is in store for 2006? First, off the frames should be arriving in April and should be a different view than the frames out now. New bars and some 990 mounted forks are also being released in the spring. Other stuff is in the works. One of my biggest goals is to showcase the team and come out with some sort of video. Like I said before it is an honor to have this team and I want everyone to understand why I put them on Sunday. Again thanks for your patience and support and we will see you in 2006.

Thanks,
Jim

Jim Cielencki’s Bike Check

Well here is my really purple bike, I have never had a purple bike, so why not do as much as I can in purple. The last time I had a bike that was almost all one color was my white GT Performer which I got after my CW was stolen. Since CW hasn’t been in business for a long time, you can guess that it was forever ago. So far everything is good and hopefully it stays good after I ride this snow bank tonight.

Forks- Sunday Morning Forks purple

Levers- Odyssey M-2 lever-trigger style
Bar Ends- Plastic ones from the grips
Stem- Odyssey Elementary black
Cranks- Odyssey Wombolt cranks

Chain- KMC Dropbuster 510

New Prototypes Arrive!

Well I am really excited to say that the second batch of prototype frames have come in. Here are some photos of the frames when they arrived at the shop. By now, almost every team rider at this time should have one in there possession, so expect bike checks to come in real soon, mine will probably be up in a day or so.

In this second batch, you will see an imprint of the Sunday logo on the ends of the chain and seat stays and a different shape of the dropout. These also have the shorter rear ends(13.75″) and some minor touches to the head and downtube. The production colors are chosen, so you will see green, red and gray. If you look hard enough you might see a black frame, but those are in really limited supply. In fact, it is so limited you won’t even see it until Ian sends his bike check in. The frames should be done at the end of March and at the shops by the end of April.

New fork cap!

Okay for all those people that thought the Sunday fork cap was just a Tree cap, this one is quite different. The main goal of this cap is to allow for the few people that run front brakes to take apart their bike without having to disconnect the cable from the the brake itself. Just disconnect the cable from the lever and pull the cap off the cable. To tighten the fork down just use a 6 or 8mm allen wrench. The holes are offset, but it doesn’t affect the tightening of the cap. Now everything will work fine when the 990 mounted forks come out in the spring.

Time flies news update

Okay, so it has been awhile since the last update, but that is because so much has been going on. The final production frame samples are on their way here. There was 151 comments about the names of the new bars and if anyone guessed Tudor Bar then you were right. I had to keep it in line with the rest of the other bars being that their names have something to do with former shop names and Tudor was the bar where the name Sunday came from. We were at a show and couldn’t think of anything except Spanish names. Domingo is Spanish for Sunday, but that didn’t seem right. We thought what about Sunday and the rest is history.

Here is some info on what the team is up to:

Jim Cielencki-Well, I am trying new ways to prevent myself from going insane from doing the shop and bike company, but it really isn’t working. If anybody has any suggestions, please comment. Actually, it hasn’t been too bad because I was given more time from being hurt. It is either a severely bruised heal or a broken foot suffered from the Backyard Jam in October. It is feeling better, but it really isn’t that good. A few insoles and landing with my right foot first is my medication right now.

Vinnie Sammon-Is in New York waiting for the Animal Video premier on December 19th.

Ian Schwartz-Is riding in California, getting footage and hanging out with his girlfriend. He is only there a week, but is missing some of the busy season in his bike messenger job. Ian has a bunch of good clips in the newest Shook titled “We are Everywhere”.

Eli Platt-Speaking of clips, Eli also has a bunch of clips in the same Shook in fact they both are on the same trip. Eli is currently finishing up his philosphy degree. So congradulate him on that next time you see him.

Mike Hoder-What can you say about Mike? He is probably jumping something real big as we speak. He has a check out in the newest issue of RideBMX and is currently doing rails without the need for pegs.

Karl
Karl Poynter-Karl is going on a Shook road trip that is leaving tomorrow for the midwest somewhere. On this trip, he is trying to film his bio in a week and it will come out in the next issue called “It’s On”.

Joe Mike
The Sunday International team is growing quickly. First, in the UK, Joe Cox and Mike Taylor have joined the team. Joe has an amazing section and is the creator of the UK street video Voices which should be available in the US real soon at EmpireBMX. Mike is probably one of the more underrated and unknown riders around. I have seen him do stuff that other riders haven’t stepped to yet and it has been 2 years. Incidently, both of these photos are poached from myspace.

Dominik
Photo Pierre Mandt
Christian
Photo Unknown
Second, in Germany both Dominik Wrobel and Christian Ziegler are riding for Sunday. Dominik does WoozyBMX fulltime which doesn’t seem to slow down the riding. Christian tears it up on everything and I can’t wait to meet him in Estonia!

Nameless Bar

Alright, this is the dimensions for the new bar which is going to be available in the spring. At just half way between the Color and Triumph Bars It is meant to fill in the space between the two. Just check out the drawings to see the dimensions and what not. There isn’t a name for the bar yet, but if you have any name suggestions just leave it in the comments, but make it atleast funny. Thanks!!!

BACO-A-GO-GO JAM

On Halloween weekend I went to the Baco-A-Go-Go Jam at Mesh Skate Park, owned by Chad Degroot, in Longwood, Florida. The park was cool because it was sectioned off into two sides, a skate and BMX side. This was my first Baco event and I must say I was excited about going. My girlfriend was with me so it made it that much better. A lot went down throughout the weekend so I decided to give some highlights from each day just to make it simple.

Okay, the first day was Friday and it involved a mellow practice session to basically get a feel for the ramps. There were a lot of people riding, so it was hard to get a good line done. It was difficult, but I managed to pull a good line off (too complicated to explain in words, it involved some fakie stuff). Later that night Matt Coplon’s band played and some of the costumes started to come out. I didn’t know what to expect. Although I did not get to stay for the whole set, it was enjoyable.

Saturday was really interesting. The pro comp. and best trick was scheduled for this day. Pro qualifying went really well. There were nine heats and around forty pros. Each heat of around four riders had a ten minute jam-format. The same with the finals. Brian Kachinsky was riding really good along with Kevin Porter. Pretty much everyone was riding good. Jonah Linberg was doing a lot of really good tech things. I did a line first try that I was psyched on. After qualifying there were finals to the top ten. I made finals and was really excited about that. All the riders that were in the finals rode well. Then best trick started and it was complete chaos. People going all over the place, landing on top of each other, and pedaling full throttle at everything. A lot of crazy things went down. I didn’t even make an attempt of going out onto the ramps. It was one of those “had to be there” things.

The results for pro finals and best trick go like this:

Pro
1. Daniel Dhers
2. Mark Mulville
3. Jeremiah Jones

Best Trick
1. Anthony Cico – fakie wall-ride to tail-whip out on a flat wall into a quarter
2. Daniel Dhers – front-flip over the spin and 360 tail-whip fakie on a quarter

Sunday was the Am comp. There were a lot of riders doing good things. Props to all the am riders that were there. More things happened, but this is just the rough low-down of the whole weekend. Chad Degroot definitely put on an awesome contest and I’m looking forward to the next one.—–Karl Poynter

New Sunday T-Shirts

Scribble Yell!
Sunday, Sunday, Sunday

Okay, well the shirts have been out for awhile, but I have never posted anything about them. So If you never looked at any of the online/mailorder places or been to a good bmx shop then you probably haven’t seen any of the shirts. First is the ‘Scribble’ and it comes in purple and brown. The purple is only in small and now the brown is coming in a full size run including XL. Next is the ‘Yell’ logo which comes in gray and in every size. Lastly is the ‘3 Sunday’ or ‘Sunday Sunday Sunday’ which comes in yellow and for those who can rock it pink. The yellow is only in small while the pink comes in medium and large. There is more to come and designs along with colors are always changing. You can find these at any good BMX shop or any of the mailorders.

Eli Platt joins Sunday

Eli in Montreal gaping to icepick while Jeff Z shoots a good photo and I shoot a poor one!

Right now besides myself the team consists of Vinnie Sammon, Ian Schwartz, Mike Hoder and Karl Poynter. Well the Sunday team has grown a little bigger with the additon of Columbus’s Eli Platt. If you have seen any of the Shook videos then you will have seen Eli’s full length section in Winteractive. Remember up picnic table to whip and the last trick? Also, he has a photo doing an over grind on a square rail while also jumping over a chain in the Micreation trip article in the December issue of Ride BMX. So look for that in the next issue of Shook entitled “We are Everywhere” You can also see stuff from Ian Schwartz on that video and I might even have a clip or two. So now the team has 2 guys with brakes and 4 guys that don’t. Look out for another team rider announcement soon!!!!
